《紐約時報》（The New York Times）報導，當地時間上周六（25日）晚間約10時，一輛白色廂型車高速駛入柏林市中心蒂爾加滕公園（Tiergarten）附近側街，衝撞人群後撞上樹木，司機隨即逃逸。現場車輛車頭嚴重損毀。警方表示，部分傷者身上有刀傷。

警方周日清晨公布21歲嫌犯阿卜杜勒·B.（Abdul B.）的照片與部分姓名（依德國隱私法隱去全名），並指出此人為警方已知人物，與「伊斯蘭主義光譜」（Islamist spectrum）有關聯。德國媒體報導，嫌犯出生於德國、持德國護照，具黎巴嫩移民背景，但警方尚未證實。
